Spring finally arrives

Long longed for, finally in sight: spring. It is still in the starting holes, but its arrival in the next few days is quite certain, the german weather service said on monday. Sun-hungry people could look forward to a few days with temperatures of up to 22 degrees, said a meteorologist from the german weather service (DWD).

A foretaste of this was already given by the weather on the last day of the easter weekend. In almost all of bavaria, the sun was shining, the temperatures rose slightly, with peaks of up to 15 degrees expected. "A first breath of spring", commented the DWD meteorologist. Dry and sunny weather was also expected for tuesday, with temperatures topping the 20-degree mark for the first time this year.

For the middle of the week, the meteorologists in bavaria then expect a weather change. A cold front crosses the free state from west to east on wednesday after a friendly start, it cools down considerably, there are showers and even thunderstorms in parts. But after a transitional day on thursday, the trend is up again. People in bavaria can look forward to really nice spring weather next weekend.

Winter sports enthusiasts are still getting their money's worth in bavaria at the moment. At 1500 meters above sea level, there is still an average of one and a half meters of snow. On the zugspitze (2962 meters) it is almost four and a half meters, on the wendelstein 2.60 meters. In the popular upper bavarian ski resorts at spitzingsee, conditions are still appealing at 1.30 meters, at brauneck with 2.20 still good.

The joy is dampened by the increasing danger of avalanches. Due to the warmer weather, the avalanche warning service reported that loose snow and snow slab avalanches could occur again and again. On a scale of 1 to 5, the warning level is currently 3 everywhere. The situation is particularly dangerous above 1,800 meters in steep terrain near the crest and in freshly blown-in gullies and hollows. There, even a small load – such as that of a single skier – can trigger dangerously large snow slab avalanches.
