Good news for the friends of the main moorland forest: the likelihood that trees will have to be felled in a bamberg recreation area for the construction of a new police building has become much smaller this week.
The reason is a change in thinking at the top of the city. Bamberg's mayor andreas stark (SPD), until now an advocate of the originally considered location at the corner of armeestrabe and moosstrabe, is now "committed to a balance of interests" a. In response to a question from our newspaper, stark said that a balance had to be struck between the demands of a citizens' petition and the political desire to keep the two police stations in bamberg. The hope of the head of the city that the waves over the public discussion about the main moor forest can still be smoothed and a compromise can be found, is based on a renewed examination of possible alternative sites. According to information from starke, it took place on thursday in the presence of representatives of the city, the prasidium of the police in upper franconia and the bavarian real estate administration.
Building rights exist at tannig
A total of six different sites were examined and tested for their suitability as new police locations: two plots on geisfelder strabe, one in the vicinity of the oak office on gutenbergstrabe, one not far from the former u.S. Tank washing area, one in the former ferngas-nord building on benzstrabe. Finally, one at the tannig on berliner ring opposite "wohnzimmer koch".
The urban plot of land at tannig has emerged as the favorite because it best fulfills the criteria of the free state: it is located on the berliner ring not far from the highway and thus has excellent traffic connections; with a size of 1.8 hectares, it has the desired dimensions and there is building permission, so that the project can be realized within a reasonable period of time. At first glance, neighboring rights also seem to be hardly affected.
Despite these many plus points, which bring a consensus within reach, starke is not yet talking about a final decision. The traffic lights are on the ground, but first the experts from the state building authority had to carry out the necessary investigations into the condition of the building site and the possibilities for access. However, the necessary preparatory work is to be tackled quickly and a new meeting will be held in september.
The head of the city clearly rejected an idea that had been raised a week ago by daniela reinfelder. The city councilor of bamberg's independent burgers had asked in a motion to the city to examine the new building of the traffic police inspection on the land of the harbor basin. It is well known that the port administration is considering filling the northern of the two port basins because it is no longer needed. But from andreas starke's point of view, this idea is "completely unrealistic", as it required a planning approval process with many parties involved. On friday, the bamberg police were unable to provide an assessment of any of the locations mentioned above. Albert hafner, head of the bamberg-land police department, made it clear, however, that three points are important to the police with the units of the bamberg-land police department, the traffic police department and a training center: good traffic connections, rapid feasibility and a location within the city limits. "It would have been very good indeed if our approximately 200 employees had continued to be based in bamberg", said hafner.
Initiative sees "success
How do the representatives of the citizens' initiative "fur den hauptsmoorwald" react? To the surprising turn of events? "The fact that the initially planned site on the trimm-dich-path is now no longer an option is a great success for us", volker braun explained in response to an inquiry. He also agrees that the city and the police are disinclined to consider relocating the venue to the muna site. However, the initiative is sticking to its plan to cancel the citizens' petition by saturday of next week: "we continue to reject the geisfelder strabe business park."
